COLD WEATHER PROPERTY CARE | Winter Maintenance Reminders

MECA Commercial Real Estate encourages property owners and occupants to take proactive steps as colder temperatures approach. A few preventative measures can help protect buildings from frozen pipes, water damage, and unnecessary disruptions.

Our Property Maintenance Specialist, Grant LeRoux, recommends the following best practices:

• Allow faucets to drip slightly to keep water moving and reduce the risk of frozen pipes.

• Disconnect outdoor hoses and protect exterior spigots to limit pressure buildup and cold exposure.

• Maintain consistent indoor temperatures by keeping thermostats set to at least 55°F, even in lightly occupied areas.

• Ensure doors and windows are properly sealed to help retain heat and protect plumbing systems.

• Locate the water shut-off valves in advance to enable a quick response in the event of an emergency.

• Keep entrances, walkways, and exits clear of snow and ice to maintain safe access.

These simple precautions can help safeguard properties throughout the winter season. MECA Commercial Real Estate is always happy to share practical guidance from our maintenance team to support responsible property ownership.
